Pokemon Scarlet and Violet‘s expansion, The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero, tells a continuous story centered on new human characters and Legendary Pokemon.
Both The Teal Mask and The Indigo Disk culminate in the epilogue, titled Mochi Madness. Here, players team up with their Paldean and Blueberry Academy friends to stop some weird things happening on Kitakami. This, of course, leads to a boss fight where players can catch the new Mythical Pokemon Pecharunt.
Now, players are sharing why you should bring certain story-relevant Pokemon into that final boss fight.
Note, spoilers for The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero and Mochi Madness follow.
Players explain why you should bring Ogerpon and Loyal Three to Pecharunt fight
As Reddit user Clockwork765 shared, bringing Ogerpon into the Pecharunt fight triggers a specific reaction.
“If you send out Ogerpon against Pecharunt, then you’re greeted by a Warrior cry from Ogerpon,” they explain.
Others have confirmed the game also acknowledges the player sending any of the Loyal (or Lousy) Three (Okidogi, Munkidori and Fezandipiti) into the fight. In response to any of them, “Pecharunt grunts in anger.”
It’s a cool little secret, particularly for players who have paid close attention to the story, lore, and its inspirations.
Ogerpon, the Loyal/Lousy Three and Pecharunt are all based on the Japanese folktale Momotarō. Pecharunt represents the eponymous “peach boy,” though Scarlet and Violet reverse the roles by presenting the ogre as the hero and Pecharunt as a villain.
Pecharunt and the trio were the ones who caused Ogerpon to lose her friend and masks, but the so-called Loyal Three’s defeat at her hands caused her to be ostracized by the people of Kitakami.
It’s also heavily implied that Pecharunt – the Subjugation Pokemon – used its unique Poison Puppeteer ability to manipulate the Loyal Three. The signature move Malignant Chain resembles the Toxic Chains around Okidogi, Munkidori and Fezandipiti, the poisonous mochi Pecharunt creates is shown to cause unusual behavior, and the Three are known as the Retainer Pokemon, presumably serving Pecharunt.
With all this in mind, it makes perfect sense why Ogerpon would be so eager to take down the Pokemon who wronged her and why Pecharunt would be furious to see its retainers working against it.
